Emergency number

The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112.

If you find yourself out of coverage area of your mobile network and
there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing
network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly…this
number112 can be dialed even while the keypad is locked.

Try it out.

2) Locked the keys in the car? Your car has remote keys?

This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you
happen to lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are home, call
someone on your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car
door and have the other person at your home press the unlock button,
holding it near the phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone
from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be
hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other
“remote” for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

3) Hidden Battery power

Imagine your cell battery is very low, u r expecting an important call
and u don’t have a charger. Nokia instrument comes with a reserve battery.
To activate, press the keys *3370# Your cell will restart with this
reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This
reserve will get charged when u charge your cell next time.

Enjoy and add rep

Malicious software in nokia series 60 devices

Malicious software in nokia series 60 devices

There have been some consumer complaints that malware has infected their nokia Series 60 device. Consumer awareness is essential to prevent malware to spread from device to device.
Disinfection can be done in several ways depending on the type of malware. In most cases disinfection can be done by the consumer e.g. with 3rd party anti-virus SW. In most of the cases the repair action is formatting of user data.

Note: The malware is not spread over mobile networks.

Instructions to be provided to the consumer after the disinfection:
The following instructions should be provided to the consumer after the fix to ensure their device is not affected again.
- Turn Bluetooth on only when needed
- Set Bluetooth ?Hidden? mode as default, use ?Shown to all? only when needed
- Do not receive any unknown messages/objectives via Bluetooth.
- Do not install any ?unknown? or ?untrusted? applications unless you know exactly what they are and from where they are.

One example of above-mentioned malware (worm called CABIR or CARIBE). The example worm is not the only malware causing infection, but the methods to fix the infected device are similar as in example malware.

One example of malware is SW worm called CABIR or CARIBE, which spreads through Bluetooth-enabled devices as CARIBE.SIS file. The worm sends a copy of itself to visible ?Show to all? Bluetooth devices However the worm will not affect the device unless the consumer takes the active step of accepting it.
Additionally the worm cannot find devices in which Bluetooth is switched to ?Hidden? mode, or those in which Bluetooth is switched ?off?.

Methods to fix infected device:

Install and run 3rd party Anti-Caribe SW, which can be found e.g. on FSecure web pages (F-Secure Mobile Anti-Virus: http://mobile.fsecure.com)
If step 1 fails, format the device by pressing *#7370# on keypad. Note that all user data will be lost.
If steps 1 and 2 fail, format and re-flash the device.
Note: The Cabir files can be stored also to the memory card. In that case format also memory card.
User setting backup/restore:

Customer is recommended to use PC Suite for backup.
Backup and restore phone memory to MMC must not be used.
Otherwise the malware might possibly be written back to the device

Saving A Wet Cell Phone

Saving A Wet Cell Phone

Did you ever drop your cellphone in a puddle or even the toilet? It usually means you have to replace your phone, which obviously sucks. If you’re fast enough, you can still save your baby in time.

* Remove the Battery. This is one of the most important steps. Don’t take time to think about it, electricity and water do not mix. Cutting power to your phone is a crucial first step in saving it.

* Dry your Phone. Obviously you need to remove as much of the water as soon as you can to prevent it from getting into the phone. Use a towel or a paper towel to remove as much of the water as possible.

* Soak in Alcohol. Alcohol is hygroscopic (attracts water), it will dissolve all the water in the phone, which will then pour out of the phone with the alcohol. Any remaining alcohol will evaporate. Alcohol will not harm your phone but may mess up glue (from stickers and the like). Use 95% alcohol, not the regular 70% rubbing type. Do it outside!. If you use alcohol, do not follow the rest of the advice here, instead leave your phone outside for a day or two to dry.

* Allow the phone to dry. Since you do not want to ruin your phone or lose all the numbers in your phone book, you need to allow the phone to dry. Don’t try putting the battery back on to see if it works as this would risk damaging the phone with a short circuit. Leaving your phone in a bowl of dry rice will help to expedite moisture evaporation.

* Heat your Phone. Apply enough heat to your phone to cause the water to evaporate without waterlogging your digital screen. One of the best things you can do to save a cell phone is to set it on the back of your computer monitor or TV screen over the heat vents. This is usually the perfect amount of heat to fix your phone. The convection action of the heat vents will help carry away the moisture in your phone. Leave the phone on the heat for at least 2-3 days. Another option is to leave it overnight in the oven on warm (make sure to take off the battery first).

* Test your Phone. After you have waited 3 days, make sure everything is clean and dry looking and re-attach the battery to the phone and see if it works. If your phone does not work repeat step 4. If it still won’t work, try taking your cell phone to an authorized dealer. Sometimes they can fix it.

TIPS:

1. Don’t put the battery on for at least 3 days or longer if your digital screen is foggy.
2. Place a piece of satin finish scotch tape over your water damage sticker before you drop your cell phone in the water to prevent the water damage sticker from voiding your warranty. This sticker can usually be found under your battery. It’s a small round white sticker, possibly with dots on it. If this sticker gets wet it changes color and your phone is marked for water damage.
3. Remove the tape if you ever have to return your phone for repairs or warranty. (See the note in the ‘Warnings’ section about doing this!)
4. The best way to dry out your phone is to place it in front of an air conditioner or air conditioning vent. Cold air won’t damage your phone (hot air can warp or in extreme cases even melt plastic), and air from an air conditioner is dry, and so will evaporate water faster than you might think (which is why a car air conditioner will de-mist the windshield so effectively, even if the engine hasn’t warmed up yet). Warm air from a reverse-cycle air conditioner works even better, of course. If you dry your phone in this way overnight it should be fine by the morning.
5. Use a hairdryer set on warm; it won’t melt your head so your phone should be safe.
6. Use a food dehydrator.
7. Use the oven on the warm setting (make sure to take out the battery)

WARNINGS:

1. Don’t heat the battery or it could leak acid. If you use an oven or hairdryer, make sure to remove the battery first.
2. If you use alcohol make sure to do so outside, and do not apply heat in any form, not even the gentle heat of a monitor. Do not hook up the bettery till the alcohol smell dissipates.
3. Do not apply heat to your phone other than mentioned above. You don’t want to melt or burn your phone.
4. Warranty fraud is naughty! If you dropped your phone in the can with your other ‘droppings’?are you really going to send it in for a warranty tech to have to open? Yuck!
5. FYI, Most modern phones have more than one liquid damage indicator on them, only one visible to you (and sales/technician agents), and chances are, if the sticker under the battery is triggered (or would be, with the scotch tape trick), then the odds are that the internal stickers you can’t access are tripped as well. This will still result in you paying a voided-warranty fee in the long run, and it may be best to just learn from your mistake (and not make it more financially severe!).
6. Even if all these steps are followed, minerals dissolved in the water can precipitate on solder and component pins, causing corrosion or shorting. Components pins are packed so closely together in a modern cell phone that even a small encrustation can create a short, rendering the phone inoperable.

[GUIDE] for applying .app file…

COPYING .APP FILE

Some of you don’t know on how to use the .APP file provided at the uploaded files.

So here’s the Guide on how to use it.

Short Info..
.APP file - it is not an installer that you will install to ur mobile.
If we can see some execution file in our windows in “.EXE”. We use it to run programs,
for example, Explore ur C:/Programfiles/ and open any folder you like, you can see there that there’s an .exe file.
if you click it, you will be able to open that Application.
Like in our Symbian Phones, .exe file is replaced as .app file.
And .app file is available to register(cr4ck) some applications and games.

i hope you get what i mean..

So here’s how you do with the file..

1. First you will need a File Explorer such as FEplorer, Profiexplorer, Fileman, etc.
install any of this ‘coz you will need this through the process.
All apps mentioned are available to download at Applications Collection.
FExplorer 1.12 is suggested.

2. If ever you download an app that comes with .APP file, first install the .SIS file onto ur mobile.
after installing, if you open the app you can get some registration reminder, so here it is..

3. Send the .APP file to ur Mobile(lots of ways, tru BT, IR or Card Reader)

3.1 Tru IR or BT - Send it once, but do not open it as it will come as text message, pop up
will come saying “Unknown File Format”. Just go to ur File Explorer. At the root, you can
see [Inbox], Open it and you can see there the .APP file that you’ve sent click on the Option>Edit>Copy then go to X:/System/Apps/ the folder of the app[for example CallRecorder].
at the folder click again Option>Edit>Paste, and it will ask you if you want to override existing, just click yes.
After pasting, go to the application you just modified and see if theres any pop up for registering that app. If none, go to ur Messages Inbox and delete the messages that comes from ur IR or BT.

That’s it! so be done..

3.2 Tru Card Reader - First install the app on ur mobile and choose Memory to store that app. This option is applicable only for those who likes to install apps or games to their Memory Card.
Just Simply insert ur Memory Card into Card Reader. Open the drive that contains the file and to the DIR of the app you will copy and paste the .APP file.
For Example CallRecorder. Copy the .app file from ur computer and paste it at Y:/System/Apps/CallRecorder. and it will ask you if you want to override existing, just click yes.

That’s it again..

Note: X - means where you install the Apps or Games only in C: or E:
Y - means the drive you open ur Memory Card

Hope you find it usefull and easy to understand.

You bought a nokia phone about a year ago and warranty will be soon over. You wish you could get a new phone?

Well this is how we do it:

Remove battery cover and battery
Connect a 12V DC power supply to the phone’s battery connector
as shown in the picture

vdc4vy.jpg

An IC will then burn internally and your phone will die. There will be no sign of it so Nokia technicians won’t see that you did something to your phone and will replace it with a new one.

Do not try this if your phone is not under warranty
Do not try this if you suspect or you are not sure if your phone has ever suffered liquid or drop damage
Do not try this if you don’t understand what I’m talking about
